The building that houses the Wrocław Opera was built in the years 1839–1841, and then, until 2006, it was rebuilt several times. Most of the decorations from the 19th century have been preserved in the richly decorated interior.
The current repertoire of the Opera includes primarily great opera classics, in a wide historical and stylistic cross-section, as well as ballet classics. The Wrocław Opera also organizes the only Contemporary Opera Festival in Poland, presenting its own performances and productions of guest theaters.
A permanent element of the repertoire of the Wrocław opera stage are unconventional performances, e.g. in the Cathedral of St. Maria Magdalena or the Centennial Hall.
